    Dedicated Members Of:

The building and structural division at Johnson Engineering Consultants has been a major component of this company for years. We provide building code compliance review and structural engineering services for residential, commercial, municipal and agricultural projects. Our staff of professionals are dedicated to using the client's concepts, ideas and ultimate goals to provide the best possible solution and outcome.

Johnson Engineering Consultants is certified as a design firm through the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MAH). Bill 124 modifies the Ontario Building Code and requires that design firms become certified through the MAH for different Ontario Building Code (OBC) specialties. The Ontario Building Code is a Provincial Regulation empowered by the Ontario Building Code Act. As such, both the Act and the Regulation (the Ontario Building Code) are available on the www.e-laws.gov.on.ca website. They keep moving them around so our link may not work, but last we checked, the Regulation (the Ontario Building Code) was available at http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/regs/english/elaws_regs_060350_e.htm

There has been growing interest in installing solar panels, both photovoltaic and water heating systems, on roof tops in Ontario since the Feed-in-tariff (FIT) program was announced by the Ontario Power Authority in September 2009. New buildings that are being proposed for construction can easily and inexpensively have their structural system designed to accommodate the weight (dead load) of these solar energy systems, but at the same time, it is rarely true for existing buildings. We've written a pdf that helps explain the various structural concerns, you can download it here.

Our projects have included steel, concrete, masonry and wood construction and are designed to comply with the Ontario Building Code and Ontario Fire Code. We have been involved with the following, but not are limited to, structural design and analysis projects:
